The Hagiographeion of the Holy Convent of The Great Martyr SaintGeorge the Trophy-Bearer, Avlides, was funded and erected by the Foundress and First Abbess of our Convent, Reverend Paisia, Great Schema Nun, and student of her late Spiritual Father, Geronta Archimandrite Sophrony Sakharov of Essex, Great Britain, and her late pious Photis Kontoglou.

Our Hagiographion artisans are, ONLY, Orthodox Icons of the Eastern Orthodox Great Church of Christ. Our technique combines its strict Byzantine and Dogmatic line of Photis Kontoglou, with characteristics’ of the Cretian and Macedonian School, capturing at the same time, the Mount Athos spirituality.

Our Hagiography is made with the traditional use of the applications and techniques of Byzantine Hagiography, perfectly preserving the Byzantine Tradition, having won the admiration and praise of the Great and Renowned Names in the Field of Art.

After fifty-six full years of experiences and after hagiography dozens of Churches, Monasteries, Convents, Royalty, Patriarchs, Archbishops, and Bishops Collections all over the world we have acquired the excellent knowledge and technique of the subject of Hagiography.

Our designs are exquisitely original and unique, to such an extent that they are copied by most of today’s hagiographers, we have the ability to design any Byzantine theme in any combination and if requested, but always in the context of Orthodox Byzantine Dogmatology.

Our monastic status and the uninterrupted mental prayer that we practice as well as our high level of education enables us to process precisely all the subjects for hagiography and to formulate them Orthodox, in the spirit of truth without any traces of heresy and malice.

Each work is curated by a group of hagiographic Nuns, with cooperation, exchange of knowledge, unceasing prayer, always under the watchful eye of our Holy Foundress and Abbess Paisia.

Every Icon is done slowly, with care and responsibility. The materials used are forever and our technique is perfection. Each Hagiography takes all the time needed to decorate without haste. We have the ability to create simple, complex works, works with 24-carat gold leaf, with unique designs and carvings with original decorative designs, with special representations, with enamel decoration, and with a decoration of semi-precious stones if requested.

Each Icon finishing is photographed, recorded in a special book with a separate code, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, bearing a date, registration code, and the Convent’s Seal of the Hagiography, as a guarantee of each unique handmade work.

With our polite initiative, the names of the customers of the Holy Hagiography are also recorded in the Book of Remembrance of the pious Christian donors of the Holy Convent.

    MIRACULOUS   EVENTS

The Miraculous Events of the Holy Hagiographeion of the Convent of Saint George the Trophy bearer, Avlides, are dozens. We shall be narrated you only four of them, which are proved even today, the power of prayer and the live communication of Heaven and Earth, because… Where God Wills, Wins Natural Order……

SAINT    CATHERINE

In the year 1997, our Hagiogra pheion painted a large beautiful Icon of Saint Great Martyr Catherine. Our Osiologiotati Founder and Holy Abbess Paisia, when hagiographed the Icon; thought to do innovation and not to put in the Icon a Trational element so as to be different and special. When finishing the Icon and being satisfied, she left for her nightly rest.

In the middle of the night, though, appeared suddenly in front of her the Icon which she had just hagiographed, Holy Saint Catherine which was pain ted in the Icon came alive, and turning towards our Osiologio tati Founder and Holy Abbess Paisia, she said… “The books  you have put, but my book you haven’t put!”   And suddenly appeared in front of her, the book which the Saint was writing in on the lectern (analogy).  At once the desire of Great Martyr Saint Catharine was accomplished.

SAINT ATHANASIOS

 THE GREAT

Once a woman came to our Convent who couldn’t for years bear children, so she fervently prayed to God to be given a child. After years of praying, God granted her a healthy baby boy. So she wanted to order a beautiful Hagiography of Saint Athanasius the Great, that was the Christian name given to her son from her ancestors, and that this Great Saint to protect her only child all the days of his life.

Indeed, the Hagiographeion of our Convent painted for her with prayer a beautiful Icon of the Great Saint Athanasius. The woman received it with great happiness and placed it in her baby’s room next to his cot, to protect him.

After some time, one day as she was cleaning the house, she heard her baby in the cot, laugh ing with a man. She ran in a panic, thinking someone had broken in to steal her child. Entering the baby’s room she saw her child, baby talking and laughing with the Icon of the Great Saint Athanasius, as if he was playing with another child.

SAINT   SPYRIDON

A hagiographic nun of our Con vent, elaborately sculptured an Icon of Saint Spyridon, together with an Icon of Saint Fanourios, and to add precious stones, in different parts of the Icons as it was ordered.  During her paint ing and praying as usual to the Saints to help her finish corre ctly their Icons.

All of a sudden she heard a sweet fatherly voice coming from Saint Spyridon which she was painting at that time, say ing… “Not those stones, but those you put on Saint Fanou rios,  I want!” The nun was startled because he revealed to her with her monastic name, and his voice was coming from the Icon, it was so affectionate and fatherly as if the Saint was standing next to her. Actually, the gems of Saint Fanourios really matched the color of the hierarch garments of Saint Spyridon.

OSIOS   CHRISTOPHOROS  PAPOULAKOS

In the year 1982, Father Nectarios Moulatsiotis, asked from Osiologiotati Founder and Holy Abbess Paisia, then Nectaria Rasophora Nun to hagiographies’ in a byzantine style a new Osios, which is not yet proclaimed officially from the Ortho dox Church and his Icon was nowhere to be found. It is about Christopher “Papoulakos” of Peloponnese, a holy monk, and a holy preacher. The priest Nectarios Moulatsiotis brought to our Abbess, an old photograph from the time when Osios was alive; showing him wearing raged layman clothes and a cap. Looking at the photograph our Osiologio tati Foundress and Holy Reverend Abbess Paisia, told him that it wasn’t right that a Holy Father and a monk was to be hagiographed with those old raged layman clothes. So Father Nectarios Moulatsiotis answered; “Do whatever the Holy Osios enlightens you to do”.

That same night, Osiologiotati Foundress and Holy Reve rend Abbess Paisia prayed to the Holy Father to help her, to Hagiography his First Icon. Indeed, that night, Osios Christophoros appeared to her himself. Osiologiotati Foundress and Holy Reverend Abbess Paisia saw that she was found in a large room and opposite on the wall was a bright door.  All of a sudden the door opened wide open and coming out from inside was a blinding bright glow with a heavenly white light. From inside this light appeared a monk of an average height and smiling to our Holy Abbess said, in a sweet tone of voice: “I am Christophoros, but they know me by the name Papoulakos, I have preached in Peloponnese during  the Turkish domination; As you see me so  I want  to be hagiographed!”

He was wearing a brown inside long garment (anterie), a monk’s dark brown hat, brown shoes, and a black Raso. On his right shoulder was hanging a brown hand-woven bag (tagarie), and in his left hand he was holding a hand-made cane from a thick tree’s branch which had on top another straight wooden handle to lean on. In his right hand, he was holding a papyrus scroll which was written…..“The Atheist Education Will Destroy Our Homeland!!” Continuing he became serious and with an austere voice, three times he repeated and emphasized as follows; “Don’t forget, this is what I want you to write on this scroll!” Also, his Holiness asked her to write on his Icon....“Monk Christophoros, Papoulakos (and his holy repose date) + 18-01-1861”.

After which he blessed her with his right hand as Bishop’s bless in a very slow movement, and vanished back into the bright white light from where he came from. Our Osiologio tati Foundress and Holy Reverend Abbess Paisia got up in the middle of the night and started to hagiography his Holi ness Osios Christophoros as she saw him. After a period of time, Father Nectarios sent an extraordinary notice to stop the hagiography of the Holy Father, because the photograph he had shown wasn’t the way Osios was really like! Osiolo giotati Foundress and holy Reverend Abbess Paisia informed him that the Icon was already finished and he could come to receive it. Arriving, to receive the Icon Father Nectarios cried out “How did you know he was like that? He is exactly how I saw him when he came into my study!!” Osios in the same miraculous way appeared to the priest Archimandrite (today) Nectarios Moulatsiotis; so to have two witnesses of the same Miracle.

In this miraculous way was hagiographed the First Icon of Osios Christophoros Papoulakos of Peloponnese, Hand Painted by  Osiologiotati Foundress and Holy Reverend Abbess Paisia; in the Icon, Papoulakos is surrounded by a Heavenly bright light and without having a Halo, because He has not yet been proclaimed a Saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
